If your mind is a battlefield, I hope that the reflection questions in this post will send you on a quest to conquer your mind. It is not impossible. Over the past few months, life threw me down and wiped the floor with me. My mind became my worst enemy, and I lost my joy. This was not a state I was willing to remain in, so for weeks, I searched for Nirvana. This search, reflections, and finding a few answers are what inspired this blog post.
For me, the most defining characteristic of the soul is a state of bliss far beyond mere happiness or contentment. It is not simply feeling “okay,” but existing in a profound state of bliss. In our quest for happiness, we often search outside ourselves, we seek to indulge our senses, unaware that bliss is inherently part of our natural state. What we seek is already within us. To be blissful is our true essence; we have merely forgotten it. Fortunately, we can reawaken to our authentic selves.
Understanding Our Embodiment
I am a soul residing within a body, possessing a deep awareness of my embodiment. I inhabit this body, but I am not defined by it. Everything besides the soul is temporary; only the soul is eternal. This understanding is the essence of true knowledge.
There was never a time when we did not exist. We are eternal. We are not just our bodies any more than we are our clothes or glasses. While I have a body and a mind, I am not defined by them. I am a soul. Therefore, who you truly are, is eternal.
Reflection Questions
Reflecting on our soul’s eternal nature prompts important questions:
- How different would your life be if you could remain in a state of bliss, regardless of negative circumstances?
- What steps would you take to achieve this state of bliss?
- Upon reaching this state, what challenges might dissipate, and how might your worldview transform?
- If your soul was filled with knowledge, eternal, and blissful, how would it alter your life approach, and how would you attain this state?
Shifting Perspective: From Possession to Essence
Consider viewing yourself not AS the body and mind, but as HAVING a body and mind. When we adopt this perspective, our bodies and minds cease to dominate us. The mind tends to overwhelm us with fears of events that may never occur, leading to anxiety and depression. By learning to capture and replace negative thoughts with positive ones, we gain mastery over our minds rather than being controlled by them. Do you believe you can learn this skill? I believe we all do.
The more we dwell on the negative aspects of the mind, the less we recognize our true selves. What impression are you leaving on yourself? Is it positive or negative? If negative, what steps will you take to transform it into a positive one?
Mindful Control Over Our Thoughts
By being mindful of the thoughts we entertain daily, we can gain power over our minds. Unwanted experiences will always arise, but we have the choice not to indulge in those memories or thoughts. We possess the ability to control our minds, opting for peace over chaos. Ask yourself: What are you transforming your mind into? Are you content with your response? If not, how will you make the change?
In embracing our blissful nature, we unlock the potential to lead a life of profound joy and peace, anchored in the eternal truth of our souls.
